Are pens/pencils allowed on planes?

I'm going on a flight in a couple of days and have loads of work to do. I'm wondering if I'm going to be able to do it, because I haven't flown in a while.

yes they are you will need them to fill out some paper work on the plane as well.

Pens and pencils are allowed on the plane.  If you will be using liquid paper, make sure it is the tape kind and not the fluid kind.  Pencil sharpeners are also allowed.

Yes, it is always good to pack an extra anyway. I have a favorite brand of pen and anything else just doesn't do.
