which items can I carry with me on a 5k race?

I have no idea what I can carry and can not...

I've never been in a 5k race and there is no rules for it ha.

I'm a really good runner... so it won't matter what I can carry and can't; but some music would help for sure when I'm bored!

  1. get a watch, soo much easier than a cell phone, they have a stop watch on them, all you do hit the little button when you start and it will show your time onyour wrist, without you digging threw your pockets to pull out your phone. know one ever needs to run with a ipod, i find it a stupid idea but hey if you have to its fine.

  2. If it isn't a school race where other schools come to your school or you come to their school you can't run with an ipod or a cell phone. If it is a road race (something held by something other than the school, ex: ymca) yes you can listen to your ipod. I have never heard of people running with cell phones in a race though,.

  3. Normal 5k rules will let you have headphones, however some say no because technically it could be a hazardous situation (not being able to hear a crash, or car, etc)  I ran in the Austin Marathon and even though the rules said you couldn't, I would estimate about 90% had them.  They will usually just "DQ" you- meaning you can win any prizes or anything.

For the majority of us, it doesn't matter anyways :)

  4. If racing a 5k is so boring you need a cell phone and an Ipod, you need to find a different hobby.

  5. Don't bring the cell phone to tell your time running........get a basic running watch (shouldn't be more than 10-15 bucks at Walmart/Target).  Then you will have no problem running with a ipod listening to it during a 5K.  I've run for 13 years always wearing one, winning many 5K's and having no issues at all.  It will keep you going better for sure!!

  6. why would you want to carry a cell phone? and i dont think youre supposed to listen to your ipod while you run in a 5k, even though it does get you pumped.

  7. If it is a school meet or a "league" meet you probably wont even be able to have a metal hair clip or elastic head band or a ring on your finger or even a watch. They can be preatty strict to the point that you have to have your jersey tucked into your shorts or you could get DQ'd. If it is a road race/ charity 5k or a "fun run" you usually can have whatever you want with you.

  8. I've always worn my ipod to all of my races. You will see most runners with them...even the races that technically don't allow it, won't enforce it. There are just too many runners to enforce it. So yes, bring your ipod and have a good time!
