  1. Alaska has 4 seasons like everybody else. It is just that the Winter is longer and colder. I lived near Fairbanks for awhile and the Summers are in the 80s. The Summer is from June through August. September starts the cooler weather.

  2. In Anchorage there are 2 Municipal beaches, Jewel and Goose Lakes,  with supervised swim areas. Lifeguards are on duty from May 23-August 19 from Noon - 9p daily.

Many people consider the period between May and early September to be the best time to visit Alaska. And within that period, late May through June usually has the best combination of long days, clear skies and warm afternoons.

  3. You can swim in Alaska. The Summer is only about 6 weeks long and the water is still pretty cold, but bearable. I fell through the ice on the Naknak river on New years day. I was out so fast, friends said it looed like I was running on water. Froze my a** off.
