  1. Is an infant born prejudiced and bigoted? No. He (or she) 'has to be taught, carefully taught.'

  2. No but a infant can be born into an enviorment of prejudiced and bigotry.

Also a natural instint of survival, so taking on the thoughts and belief's  of those that usure your survival is only natural, and a learned behavior.

Is it possible to unlearn this behavior, yes, although it takes as many years as it took to learn it.

I grew up in an enviorment that had some residule racial belief's, from parents that where very racial in thier belief's,My mother's family would not even allow her to play with children of other ethnic groups, although my parents did not restrict a freindship, they would have strongly protested a ineteracial marriage, and we were told that would not be allowed, that it was just wrong. (and had many reasons as to why), also one of my black friends, her parents felt the same.

All though I may not feel comfortable about it at first, I would not protest any of my children or grandchildren if they choose person of another race as a mate.

My black friend (that is what she likes to be called, rather than African-american, she says shes never been to that country) she would be apposed to her children marring outside of her race.

  3. re-phrase that please

  4. Of course not. Bigotry is socially constructed. SOCIAL EQUALITY IS NOT A FALLACY. In fact, it is the norm in egalitarian societies. The more stratification, the more bigotry.

  5. I dont think people are born prejudiced, but I think they are influenced by whoever brings them up. Even at that, if they are raised by bigots, they can change when they're out on their own. Social equality is hard to acheive because there are so many layers of society and equality is in the eye of the beholder.

  6. Of course people are not born prejudiced and bigoted.  These are all social constructs.  The idea of black race, white race, or asian race are totally bogus social constructs.  When everyone in the world shares over 99.999% similar genetics, the idea of race is social construct used to divide the haves with have nots (i.e. I have one acre of land and you have not).

  7. Great Question. I have always believed that bigotry was an innate trait. One that is underlying. In other words, the trait for ethnocentricity is a trait that you are born with and is something that can be sparked off by poverty or ownership, ro protect ones belongings or food. As soon as the scale is tipped in one direction or another then we tend to attack someone who is different, then there becomes the minority and the majority. It is easy to create that scenario in any culture, even if we do not act upon it we still feel that way inside. I am not necessarily talking about color either. Even in China the regions who bore slightly different features from one another would claim that their traits were the best. Whose nose is fatter or lips are thicker, who has tinier feet, who is taller or bigger in stature. ....

  8. No people are not born prejidiced. when a baby enters the world he has no knowledge and no understanding. How he preceives his influences and the world around him can define his prejidice.

  9. Social equality may or may not be a fallacy, but it is an ideal we must uphold if society is to continue to become better.
