  1. People are more aware of the Judeo Spanish language nowadays all over the world.   Especially Jews that live in Spain.   I think it has become part of Spains culture and history and more people are starting to do a search on the roots of the language.

  2. Not in general.  I think most people know what it is, but I'd bet most people, given a little patience would understand it, but as I've seen it written with latin letters, I have a hard time understanding it.  I'd have to sit down and see it written in proper letters (hebew alephbet) , and see if I get it that way.

I'm guessing Jewish people, and especially Sephardim would have more familiarity with the language than most Spaniards.

I have a friend whose son lives in Buenos Aires, and is studying Ladino.

Any interest, I monitor a photo page in Flickr called  http://flickr.com/groups/djudeoespanyol/  (I don't really monitor it...the guy who created it made me an administrator.  If I decide to, I might actually become active on the page.)  Go ahead and check it out, but beware of the filtered ones, they belong to the guy who set up the page, and if you ask me, don't really belong with it.  Anyway, he also hooked me up to a ladino forum.   It's kinda interesting.

  3. yes, spanish and judeoespanol   are similar languages

  4. The language is known more for the Old Castillian mixed with Hebrew.

  5. The  people in my Sephardic synagogue (USA) can converse just fine with Spanish speaking people.  They do the best with those from Spain, and not from South America.  The language is 90% Castillian Spanish with a few words in Hebrew, Turkish, and Greek thrown in.

Added later:  Someone has seen it written in Latin?  I just bet it was Hebrew that it was written in.
