I am guessing that there is too many people to be worried about one person. Is gossiping about others more of a small town thing?

  1. nope. Even in cities there are still social statuses and possies. Everyone has their secrets and friends to share it with.

    What Scandals! :O

  2. it's an anywhere you have people thing no matter the location or atmosphere

  3. First, there are a LOT of people that more or less everyone knows, that so many love to gossip about -- famous people.

But, more imortantly, big cities may have huge populations, but many, if not most, people in them also form small communities, and have more manageable groupings.

    There's work gossip.

And there are things like local taverns and other social places and groupings, where the people do mostly know everyone who participates in or frequents that place or type of event.

And there are neighborhoods. Some are mini-communities, with people tending to stay a long time, and having contact with each other.

    Gossip is nearly universal.

  4. Everyone gossips about everyone, mostly just because other people are different. This will be present regardless of where you go.

  5. Even in larger urban areas people are affiliated in small group: workplaces, apartment or condo complexes, schools, gyms etc.  A lot of gossiping goes on about people in these smaller groups.

  6. Gossip is gossip. It is fun. In a big city you have more targets. The style of gossip may be different, you may not know the person as intimately as in a small town, but it's always the same, isn't it?
