  1. Less guilt per square mile but more conservative in their collective approach to their destination.

  2. I agree a 100 % with you people liking the people in the Neatherlands. They are so sympathic, emphathic, funny and liberal! I´m also very expressed that most of them speak excellent English.

I can understand that it is not always so fun to see a drunk or drugged foreigner, but the natives do not seem to mind or if they do, they do not show it. I wish, though, that foreigners would show a little more respect while being in Holland and behave more like civilized people!

All my respect and gratitude to the natives in the Neatherlands!

Warm greetings to Holland from Finland!

  3. Well, I'm really sure that I will receive a lot of "thumps down" by publishing my opinion. The Netherlands are such a small country in comparison to Germany, France, and Great Britain which are surrounding them, not counting the water and the Belgiums, that they are forced to be relaxed and forward thinking. Their history shows that they have always been focused on trading, which requires diplomaticy in gaining relationship. Because all neighboring countries are bigger, they are forced to show the behavior, everybody is thinking about they have. But stop, isn't it the same prejudice I just condemned in my previous answer.

    Anyhow

Ik kan platdüütsk küren en heb vele Nederlandse vrienden.

  4. The only reason the Dutch speak better English than the French, Germans, Italians or Spanish is because we get all the American and British movies/television with subtitles instead of dubbed.

If anything the Dutch government is/has been more pragmatic with their laws. For instance; you cannot stop drugs/prostitution by banning them so let's semi-legalize them so at least they cause less crime and can be controled to a certain point.

  5. We are not all the same.

Some are backwards, some are ahead of the crowd, and most are somewhere in between.

I think overall, you will find a lot of relaxed and liberal and forward thinking people in the towns in the Netherlands.

But in some of the villages the morals are still those of the 1950's, or even older.

Very much like the other countries in the world, I think.

With one exception, the people from the USA seem more conservative as a whole (although individuals are often forward too.)

  6. My personal experience says yes.

The Dutch, whether in rural areas or in Amsterdam, were pleasant and while they appreciated my sorry attempts at speaking Dutch, were mostly fluent in several languages.

I consider that very forward.  While people from other European countries tend to speak multiple languages, my experience has been that they're not quite as laid back as the Dutch.  I enjoyed this.

The other thing I notice is the openness.  Yes, a bit more liberal, for instance with the cafes and museums.

Since I have only toured the Netherlands and not really had occasion to do business there, I don't know much about business, the education system or how the government works.

I think the biggest thing that sticks out in my mind about Holland (apart from the fact that I won lots of guilders at the casino and was happy i could find jeans that were long enough for me in shops) was the dikes and the surge barriers.  Brilliant engineering!
