Im not trying to be a hater or anything but are these really mvp numbers?

.333 AVG, 17 HR, 76 RBI

Compare that to Carlos Quentin.

.287 AVG, 36 HR, 100 RBI

Both teams are in pennant races so that cannot be argued on whos better. What do you think about this?

  1. well he's not going to win but he dose lead the mlb in hits that might be y people r considing him for mvp

  2. Seasson not over :|  and yes he is.  get over you yankee fan

  3. Two perspectives offered:

    1. The voters have a historic trend of really liking scrappy, fiery middle infielders who lead the league in batting average. Voting for such players is a way of saying "hey look, little guys are valuable too", regardless that any objective analysis will say the monster OBP/SLG guys are the most valuable at putting up runs. It's a sportswriter thing, so if it happens, at least you can understand why it did and not get all worked up over it.

    2. Sometimes -- and I'm not saying the 2008 season has quite this situation -- there's just no way to not recognize the dead-certain MVP winner by mid-June, and dang, they need to write columns. Let's turn the page all the way back to 2007. Alex Rodriguez was volcanic all season long -- no way he'd not take the MVP. But when a writer needs to fill a daily allotment of column inches, "ARod crusing to third MVP" just doesn't do the job. So there was a lot of noise (and it was noise) about how Magglio Ordonez -- who indeed had an excellent season -- might draw away some MVP votes. It clearly was horserot, Rodriguez was unstoppable, but they have to write about something, so feigning a bit of controversy (Ordonez contending) was the preferred plan of the BBWAA membership. They NEEDED to write those columns, because simply praising ARod twice a week is rather dull copy.

ARod, history shows us, got 26 of 28 first-place votes, and two second-place votes. Great season and worthy of the award, but -- yawn, there was zero suspense to it.

  4. Morneau should win it because he has carried his team much more then Boston. The Sox have a great pitching staff and a valuable team while Minnesota is a no name roster with hard working scrappy players that are fighting for a playoff spot. All of Morneau stats are great. He's on pace to hit 25-30 HR and 125-130 RBI and he's also on pace to hit around 315 while carrying his stats. He's truly been an amazing player for the Twins.

  5. I'd give it to Quinten before Pedroia and not because I'm a Yankees fan. I'm impressed, but I just don't think he's an MVP. Derek Jeter put up better numbers two years ago and got jerked. So if Jeter can get jobbed like that, I see no reason Pedroia, who's a nice player, should be MVP.

  6. wat about a rod good average good hr amount plenty rbi

  7. Pedroia leads the league in hits, runs scored and and batting average. He has done all this with no Lowell, Manny being traded and Ortiz hurt for a while.

  8. he's multi-dimensional. Back off I'm sorry your precious Yankees all can't be MVPs.
