  1. They are English but their country is the UK.

    They also call themselves British

However, if they are from Wales or Scotland, they would likely tell you they are Welsh or Scottish, but from the UK.

  2. Anyone from the United Kingdom is a British citizen. I call myself British and say I'm from the United Kingdom as I live in Wales but have English, Irish and Welsh ancestry.

However, people from England call themselves English or British, people from Scotland call themselves Scottish or British, and people from Wales call themselves Welsh or British. In Northern Ireland, Republicans call themselves Irish and Unionist call themselves British (or sometime Ulster men/women).

All four constituent countries are governed from London, but Wales and Northern Ireland each have an assembly and Scotland has its own parliament in Edinburgh.

  3. "Also , is there 1 central gov. controlling all of them?"

    - Yes but some places have devolved limited powers on certain issues.

  4. UK stands for The United Kingdom which just refers to the areas within it Britain, Ireland, Scotland etc. I'm sure they are citizens of their individual place of birth i.e. Ireland, A person from Northern Ireland is still a citizen of Ireland, each place has it's own government which at one time it was the British empire that held it all, but I think all in all the British government probly just plays babysitter if something grows hairy in one place or another, Northern Ireland is the only other place I can think of thats under direct British Juresdiction.
