Question:

Are permanent retainer wires removable? Is it possible that if the patient wanted them removed, they could be?

I had my braces taken off recently, and my orthodontist told me that if I wanted to have straight teeth permanently, I would have to get little wires glued to the backs of my front and back teeth. Although they are called permanent, I would assume this only references the amount of time they are supposed to be on for. Does that mean it is possible to have the orthodontist remove them at a later date?

  1. i'm pretty sure they can remove them just like braces

i think they use the same cement

and if you wear your regular retainers like the plastic ones at night EVERY night your teeth will stay perfectly straight

    mine have at least

  2. They can remove them, I had it done, but I regreted it later in life.

My bottom teeth are not straight now.  I would at least get the kind you can take in and out.  As for grinding your teeth, you can buy OTC kits to make a mold for grinding your teeth at night. (its a rubbery substance) Grind you teeth does alot of damage!

    Good Luck !
