Are philosophies like Taoism/Confuciacism accepted in Christianity?

Or is it considered 'pagan' because, based on what they teach, neither of them are really religions, more like a philosophy...if you are a Christian, do you accept them? Why or why not?

  1. I am a Christian, it is not any ones place to judge....God is the righteous judge, not man. I love everybody no matter what....that is all anyone can do!!

  2. Taoism is a school of thought so there is no conflict with organized religion.  Many of the Taoist principles center around trusting the process of the 'one', which is the same as trusting the process of God in Christianity. I don't see a conflict.

  3. In their better-known, philosophical schools, I don't see a necessary conflict.

But there is a sharp distinction between the philosophies of these two, and the actual religions of Taoism and Confucianism. Those religions likely wouldn't be easily intergrated into most Christian denominations.

With that said, syncretism has existed as long as people held conflicting ideas. I'm sure somebody somewhere has worked out the major kinks.

  4. Not as a general rule.

Christianity in its purest form is essentially a cult, as is the case with any religion.

The purpose is to exclude those that do not believe strictly in the exact fashion that you believe.

  5. Philosophy/Theology/Spirituality/are all linked in the deep roots of humanity.  I prefer to think of the thread of truth and knowledge that is part of the weave and fabric of human kind links us all.  The term "pagan" refers to anyone that is not Christian.  It's an ugly term that speaks to our ignorence rather than our enlightenment.  The common thread of truth meanders and weaves itself through all our cultures and though subtle is sound and timeless.  I'm a Christian but I find Christian principles (or what I thought originate in Christian thought) to be alive and well in the ancient teachings of these "pagan" philosophies/religions.

  6. Water discovered in Asia is similar to that discovered in Europe, but to the individuals drinking the different cups, they are still not the same water, because of fundamental differences.  That wold be my analogy to this situation.
