Does it depend on how they're made?

  1. I use them both ways - it is all just personal preference.  They are very filling so you do not need as many when using them as a side dish as you would if using them as the main course.  When I serve them as the main course, I first boil them, then fry them in some bacon grease or butter and some onions and serve with sour cream and crumbled bacon.

  2. They can be either, but traditionally they are a side dish.

    They are very filling.

  3. I have pierogies as a main dish. I especially like the cream cheese ones but they can be a little sweet. It just depends on what you make with them, or don't make. Some people just have pierogies and french fries. However you have them they are delicious!

  4. When they are fried with bacon and onions, they are a very filling meal and need nothing else.  It is basic peasant food.  When I eat them, that's all I want.

  5. I think of them as a sidedish.

  6. Side dish.
