  1. Liters per fortnight?

  2. Besides gallons per hour, they use Nautical Air Miles per pound.

  3. No. They are not rated for mileage. Fuel consumption varies with weight, temperature, altitude, and power setting for any given airplane.

Even CASM mentioned above will have costs that are variable. Two airlines flying the same airplane may have completely different costs per seat mile.

  4. Yes. Why wouldn't they be?

  5. No they go in gallons per hour not miles per gallon.

too many variables, wind, altitude, mixture settings

  6. aircraft and autos cannot be compared... because the amount of fuel burned depends on the air density.. and every day it changes . also changes in altitude. what you do is lean the engine until it runs rougs and then enrich slightly.. there is a theoritical graph that links rpm with altitude and it is read as glallons burned per hour.... some expensive twins burn fifty gallons an hour... i have a 140 and it averages about six to seven gallons per hour... ok gilermo also this depends on the winds.. if you have a fourty mile an hour head wind then you really cannot compute.. time to turn around or go in another direction.

  7. We have charts/tables that we use to compute pounds of fuel per hour based on a variety of factors including weight, power settings, and atmosphere. We measure consumption in pounds per hour not miles per gallon.

  8. Something like it.  In the industry they use the term "seat mile cost".  How much does it take to move that passenger "seat" you may be sitting in one "mile".  Everything from regular maintenance and the cost of keeping the aircraft flying is figuered into the equation.  Ideally the larger the plane the more seats it can move and the lower the seat mile cost.
