Are ploice allowed to give out info?

are the ploice allowed to tell the person who has made a statment against the other person if they are going to be charged or not

Most information about an arrest is public record. Some local newspapers even print the information in a police blotter.

When I take someone to our county jail, I complete a booking slip. There is a box for victim information, and a question that states "Would victim like to be contacted when the person is released?"
