Question:

Are property sites like Gumtree trustworthy?

I notice renting a property from Gumtree offers much cheraper rent than through an estate agent. However, as a single or couple looking for a private flat, not flatshare, does anyone know of an experience that discourages such sites with just a mobile no. to contact the landlord? For example, are the landlords vetted? Is there security this way?

  1. yes and no, really hard to say, just use your instinct

  2. no!!!!

  3. Yes, they're trustworthy. Many of my friends and family have found quality properties through Gumtree. The reason it's cheaper, is because it is the landlords renting direct, rather than going through agents, which makes it cheaper for them to rent out.

  4. I got my current home through Gumtree, think it's an excellent site, just remember to check everything is legit. Don't pay money upfront to view a property and use the rule if it sounds too good to be true it probably is a con!!!.

  5. www.rightmove.co.uk is best site right now. i found my home there.

the advance search option narrows your search down and the site covers whole of UK.
