Question:

Are "Natural Balance Method" or square toed horse shoes better for distance riding?

I have a 9 year old Arab mare who traveled straight when she was barefoot and being ridden in the arena. However, the trails where I ride are very rocky and she needs to be shod. I've had her shod with a "Natural Balance" method twice now. The first time, she started interferring by striking her right front foot with a hind foot. I told the shoer about it with the next shoeing, and they attempted to correct for it. Then she started hitting both her hind feet in addtiion to the right front. I've ridden her in splint boots and brush boots (behind) the last 7 weeks, and she doesn't seem to be hitting herself anymore (as much as I can tell). She needs shoes again, but I don't know if I should have the Natural Balance shoer do her again, or switch to a conventional shoer.

  1. Try a conventional shoer. It sounds like her stride is what is causing her problems. Hope this helps...
