Are railroad car repairs taxable in New Jersey?

  1. Why not? Everything else is taxed.


  2. i would have to say yes, b/c not all railcars are owned by hte same company, some of these companies would have to outsorce their  repairs - afterall whoever pays for the repairs is just  going to write it off anyway

  3. The auto repair business filed to be tax exempt, based on the fact they were offering a "service" rather than a product.  Parts they were charging sales tax on, but not service (labor).  The decision was that all aspects of a repair were taxable.  Based on that, I assume railroad car repairs would also be taxable in NJ.
