Are red spotted newts legal in UK ponds?

I want three for my 250 litre pond from dart ford aquatics.

  1. no red spotted newts come from america and are not native to britain, the only newts we have are the crested newt and the smooth newt, they are both an endangered species, if you introduce the red spotted newt it could upset the balance of the british newt and even kill it, just look what happened to our red squirrel, when the grey squirrel was introduced, newts are really rare in britain and i am sure you would not want to be the cause of them becoming even rarer even extinct, if you have a good pond and want newts get in touch with the wildlife trust and ask them how to go about getting our native newt and giving them a home, rather than buying a species that does not even come from britain, we are loosing too much of our native wildlife
