Are religious people often the poorest advertisement for religious life?

They are the only advertisement for religion.  There are no gods to set anybody straight.

As far as their actions, most people are decent people, whatever superstitions they believe.  For the rest, they also fall fairly evenly across religious lines, though there are more religious people in prison than the general public, at least in the US.

Religion is a poor predictor of morality.

Religion is a man-made concept in order for them to worship whoever or whatever they want as a god.  So, yes, they couldn't give that stuff away door-to-door.  On the other hand, belief in the ONE TRUE GOD (JESUS CHRIST) is the only way to eternal salvation. THERE IS NO GREY AREA!  IT'S  EITHER HAVE FAITH IN JESUS AND LIVE IN HEAVEN FOREVER, OR DENY HIM AND LIVE FOREVER IN A LAKE OF FIRE!  NO AND's, IF's, OR BUT's!

Many are, but there are also many people who live out what they teach in their daily lives. My sister's religion teacher is one of them, Mother Teresa is another.

Bible thumpers, yes, young earth creationalist, yes.  The people that come in here and repeat what they are programed to say...

Now, people who keep their religion private where it belongs but are religious and at peace?  Those are the best, but you never notice them.  Because they aren't stepping on a soapbox talking about how Allaghgghgh or JEBUS loves them and the whole world and how he loves you too but will d**n you to h**l if you don't WORSHIP him as your SAVIOR because you are EVIL without him and to donate all your money to him, etc etc.  "YES, you have been selected to receive FREE scripture interpreted by our own genius translators, every week, all we need are your name and number, address and a donation of 500 dollars!"

Yes, because sometimes they are so unreasonable and just stubborn and they don't listen to other people and they don't respect them just because they are from different religions
