  1. Generally no, stay away from street food and try to eat where a lot of others are eating.

    Eating at hotels is the safest but most boring alternative here as Indian cuisine is real and should be experienced first hand. Eating at most popular restaurants in big cities should be OK. Try to eat vegetarian food as most of the meal.

    BUT as always ease yourself in and take suggestions from other tourists.

    Real authentic South Indian food is definitely not for the casual user. It takes time to appreciate at a deeper level like, Chinese or French food.
