Are right-turns legal on red lights?

Are right turns, in the State of California, legal on red lights? Numerous sources have informed me they are legal, while many others have also told me they are illegal. Most that state it is legal tell me to treat red lights like stop signs, and take a right turn after 3 seconds, while others state I need to wait until the gree light.

They are legal, however you must come to a complete stop before taking off. Also, sometimes it may be posted up on the light pole that they are not allowed. That is just for the specific intersection. It may be due to it being busy, or the amount of traffic lanes it has.

Where did you read the 3 second thing? Not doubting that it is written somewhere but that is horrible info. So even if a semitruck is coming at you at 70mph just wait 3 seconds and you can pull out in front? ha!

I think it is the law in most states that unless there is a sign stating no right turns on red, after you come to a full stop and the way is clear and no pedestrians or bikes are in the crosswalk, you can turn.
