Are sales departments within corporations control customer service departments?

Generally, does the customer service director answer to the VP of Sales within typical corporations? Is it good to the overall success of a company if the customer service director reports to the VP of Sales?

Yes. But most of the large companies are having separate sections for these two, both of which are responsible to the same corporate director. Most of the complaints generate therefore having communication problem / gap.

The corporations strategically adopted responsibility of sales and after sales service to the same mechanism are more successful in the market.
