I've had goldfish before. I've been planning to get a tropical aqarium, but then i noticed how pretty salt water fish are, they are alot prettier then the fish you can have in trropical aqariums...i was wondering if salt water aqariums are as easy to take care of as tropical aqariums...thanks for any help!

  1. I would go with freshwater, plus goldfish are really hard to take care of, i mean you need a 20 gallon tank just so there growth won't stunt and they won't die! There are lots of tropical fish..like...

    Neon tetras

    Cardinal tetras

    Paltys

    Kuhli loaches

    Dojo loaches

    Guppies

Rainbow fish(There are lots of different types!)

Freshwater is best to start. E-mail me with any questions!

  2. Saltwater aquariums are not easy to take care of, especially if you have the more sensitive (and pricier) fish. You have to watch pH levels, salination, temperature, add the right chemicals to it on a regular basis, have the right plants and fish in their together.

I had to help take care of a nearly 1000 gallon saltwater fishtank at work, it was a tremendous task, and the fish were prone to getting sick and dying really quickly if the settings aren't just right.

  3. I did not find salt water to be much more trouble then fresh.  I have had both over the years and my last salt water aquarium was a 85 gallon.  However the fish are quite a bit more expensive.  You do  have to make your salt water (using the right salt of course) and you have to add bacteria (also bought).  Depending on the type of fish you want some require more water flow and that is done with a larger pump.  So in the long run it requires  more money then fresh but they sure are beautiful to look at.

  4. not really.  you must constantly maintain pH balance for fish and other sea life and be ever watchful for infections that are going to occur.  it is more expensive also.

  5. Saltwater Aquariums are generally easy to care for if it is like 29 gallons or more because the water won't change as quickly from the ammonia of fish waste or say if the heater in the water broke. Saltwater aquariums are just basically like freshwater aquariums except for they are roughly $200 more expensive because you have to buy special lighting and a protein skimmer and you have to run more test for pH, salinity, etc. So they are both easy to take care of its just that they are a bit more expensive. I have a saltwater aquarium and I thought it was well worth the extra money because it is so amazing. Good luck.
