  1. They are excellent, if ugly,  There are factory Savage centerfires (Model 10 and Model 110) that are shooting as good as custom target rifles.  The Accu trigger is excellent, as it allows a light trigger pull, which is conducive to accurate shooting, while not compromising safety.

Power is a function of cartridge, not rifle.

The best factory ammo in any rifle is the premium lines from almost any reputable manufacturer,  I always start out with Federal Gold Medal Match and work my way up with handloads.  But Black Hills Match and Remington's target line are equally as good.

If your Savage centerfire does not shoot well under 1 m.o.a. (1 inch at 100 yards), have a gunsmith or some other Savage-smart shooter set the barrel to provide minimum chamber specification with a headspace gage.  It takes about 3 minutes with the proper wrenches and usually makes the rifle super accurate.

  2. i have a savage rifle in .243 and i love it. shoots great and didnt break my wallet. its so accurate i can shoot an empty .243 shell at 100 yrds that good enough for me. so id say your geting a fine firearm if you go ahead with the buy!!!

  3. Savage is good stuff. The easily replaceable barrel is the best part of it, as the chambering is in the barrel, so that for example, you can start with a 243 to learn how to hunt and shoot, easily switch to a 308 for that elk hunt, and even s***w in a 358 for grizzlies! Or start with a 25-06, move up to a 270 for elk, and the 30-06 or 35 Whelen for bigger stuff. Or start with a 264 Win Magnum, move up to a 7mm Rem Magnum for elk, and then a 300 0r 338 Magnum for what-have-you! A reloading manual will show you the similarity in the cases, which allows this easy substitution. The Accu trigger is good, but the old trigger was also good. Plus a gunsmith can always touch it up even better. These days, most all the ammo is pretty good, the plastic noses expanding a little more than non. However, the Nosler Partition bullet remains my first choice, as the widest dynamic range bullet choice available. So I exclusively use it for all big game, and I handload. It is available in much factory ammo as well. Regards, Larry.

  4. Yes, they are a good value for the money.

In Outdoor Life's 2008 gun tests, Savage won the Editor's Choice and Great Buy awards for one of their .22's.

  5. They are.  It is.  Any quality ammo from any of the major ammo manufacturers in the proper caliber for whatever your Savage Firearm is chambered in.

  6. Savage arms have really come into their own with accurate, dependable firearms. I highly recommend them to anyone.

Each firearm seems to have it's own likes and dislikes when it comes to brands of ammo. I load my own, but federal premium offers some great ammo for hunting. Try a few different brands to get a feel for what works best in your rifle.

  7. While Savage rifles are very plain, I've found they deliver surprisingly good accuracy and reliability and a very affordable price tag. Granted that's mainly based on experiences with their rim-fire rifles since I don't shoot a lot of center-fire rifle (and what I do tends to be from an old military surplus rifle.) However I can't see Savage skimping on center-fire quality while focusing on rim-fire rifles since center-fire rifles are their meat and potatoes market.

Power in firearms is a result of the cartridge the gun is chambered for. Savage's model 110 is chambered for a wide variety of cartridges meaning you'll be able to find something appropriate for what you want to use it for. And if you're hankering for a rim-fire, they've certainly got models to fill every billing.

As far as the accu-trigger goes, I've never used one. However the articles I've seen tend to be very favorable.

As far as factory ammunition, every rifle and shooter are a little different. You'll need to test your rifle with a variety of ammunition and see which load works best in your individual rifle.

  8. Accuracy:  Surprising, considering their prices

Power:  You can get them in many different chamberings

    Accu Trigger:  Works great

Factory ammo:  You have to see which load(s) work best in your particular rifle.

  9. i have and old single .22 shot give to me by my dad, now my boys are out there in the scrub hunting with now. they are accurate but not sure of power or the accu trigger!

  10. Yes it is a Great choice.* I can consistently shoot three shot groups at 100 yards you can cover with a Silver Dollar with my 30-06.* Remington, Winchester, and Federal are good choice's for ammo.*
