  1. no. The students to need to be punished since they bring a knife to school. That stuff isn't allowed to be in the school. and they have to do the punishment has they do. I agree with the school. If my son in that classroom and one of students did that and they didn't do anything about let the student keep coming to school. Then I would reported the school. The school has the right to do that and it the law.

  2. I haven't seen this yet but my grand daughter got in-school suspension and had to see the counsler in 4th grade. A boy was picking at her, as happens at school and she murmered under her breath, " I could just shoot him" or something like that. Another kid told the teacher and she taken to the office. Obviously she wasn't going to kill him but should not have said what she did. It humiliated and devasted her but she now knows to watch what she says.

Its sound as if what you write off is a million times worse. So scary, huh?

  3. It's something nobody wants to admit can happen but yes, with how little discipline children receive at home and tv/video games being their main source for babysitting, it's possible. The worst part of all this is if the one child did not snitch it could very well have happened, killing the teacher, be it accidentally by going just a little too far or intentionally because like you stated at the beginning "seriously 3rd graders". Most people (myself included) could never imagine a child doing such a thing therefore leaving this teacher easy prey for them.

No, I do not think they over-reacted and quite frankly if charges have not already been brought against these children AND their parents/guardians (for who was watching these children to allow for them to even have the opportunity to bring such things to school, my children are checked daily so as to not have it available to them to take their electronics items to school because it is not permitted) their should be.

  4. It was online, I saw it the other day.  NO, the school ABSOLUTELY DID NOT overrreact.  Those children should have been expelled.

What if they had hurt other kids?  There was a KNIFE.  They all deserved what they got.  Their parents should be forced to put them in to counseling as well.  There's something WRONG in a home where a third grader would actually think it would be ok to DO something like this.

And there is something seriously wrong with YOU if you don't see that the kids were wrong, not the school.

**I'm guessing that the asker is giving the thumbs down to the replies... Since all three replies (so far) are in agreement with each other and in complete disagreement with the asker...

  5. yes, the school did over react. they were only 3rd graders after all. they didnt know what they were doing. even tho they had everything all planned out. right down to having another student being on the look out. not to mention that they covered the windows so people could not see in. seems pretty well planned out to me. but your right. the school did over react. the proper punishment would have been to have the students write "i will never again plan to tie up, and kill my teacher ever again." get a life. the school did what they should have done. maby you would think differently if it was you that was the teacher. and i seen this story online a couple of days ago.

  6. OK.... first off, you are leaving out the fact that the class is for kiddos with serious learning disabilities.  The questions is, are they mentally mature enough to have known what they were doing was serious....

My daughter is in 3rd grade, and I am actively involved in the classroom, as well as a substitute teacher in the same school.  No, her class would not display such  animosity for their teacher.

We don't know all the circumstances about the situation with the attempted assault.  The media sensationalizes everything...
