  1. Fate and destiny are words used to describe that which is in store.  They're usually used in a romantic context, sometimes in hindsight.  For example, "With a name like Molly Grin, she was destined to become a dentist."  Well, this can only be said if Molly does become a dentist.  If she decides to become a chemical engineer then no one takes notice.  Other times, such words are used by those who are hopeful of what the future will hold.  "Oh Molly, when we sat next to each other in dental school it was fate telling use we were meant to be together!"

  2. A sort of! One thing that makes the English language great is the different words of the same meaning on different fields of studies.

  3. I'm not a believer in serendipity, destiny and fate.Free will, that's something we all have.Although, many of us give it up.Free will is decisions and actions we consciously take. While making our way in a universe that is indifferent to us.

  4. Fate envolves positive as well as negative outcomes, while Serendipity is always an unexpected positive outcome.

  5. i'd say serendipity is more like the probability that a certain event will happen eventually at some point during your life... i.e. randomly meeting an old friend in europe twenty years after high school in the united states... though according to probability, it could happen any time lol.

fate is the fact that it will happen then, there, with that person, in that surrounding, etc ad nauseum....

i believe in serendipity, not fate =)

  6. no, serendipity comes from serendip, the old persian name for sri lanka while fate is a mis-spelling for a big garden party.

truth is, i don't know (apart from the serendip bit :)

  7. Serendipity seems to be a response to certain unrelated circumstances that come together.  Fate is considered something we are destined to accomplish.  You would have to believe that all things were cast in stone with regard to your life circumstances to believe that - free will choice dictates that we create our own fate and destiny.

  8. Hello

Serendipity means 'happy mistake', Fate is a combination of events, beliefs, actions, thoughts etc, but then so would a happy mistake be!
