Megaupload and Rapidshare are both legal file hosting sites. The illegal part is the content that most users upload such as copyrighted media. Megaupload nor Rapidshare scan uploaded files for malicious code. Therefore they are not safe from viruses. Just use your virus scanner to scan files before and after you download them.

yes websites like Rapidshare and Megaupload are legal but some of the content that users upload there are illegal to download and use and the files in some of the downloads do have viruses and spy-ware do download carefully and at your own risk and make sure you scan it with an anti-virus software right after you download it to make sure its safe.
