Are skipping periods normal?

I've had my period for about a year and a half to about 2 years now. i am sixteen, NOT sexually active and i'm NOT taking birth control. My last period was in june and i'm expecting my period later this month(september) but i'm still concerned. i am pretty athletic most of the time and i am pretty over weight. For the first few months of having my period, all was normal. but then every once and a while i would skip a month. but now i've skipped two... what does this mean? i'm a little nervous about talking to a doctor because i'm really self conscious and really uncomfortable about talking to someone about it and having a 'internal exam'... any advice of what to do? any advice on how to keep a healthy period?

  1. i had the same problem--it has to do with the balance of your hormones....blah blah blah

it is becuase your overweight--but if you excersice daily you can get your period on regular basis

or if your lazy...you can go to the doc's and they will give you some kind of pills to regulate your period PLUS help you lose wieght

HOWEVER SIDE AFFECTS INCLUDE DIAHERRA<---that is why I had to stop so now I excercise more and my periods are normal =]

good luck and if you do go to the doc, they shouldnt give you an internal exam--i didnt have to get one.

most likey it is the balance of your hormones and your weight (not being mean)

  2. it is natural to start later i have once or twice skipped a month try to go to the doctor because i have never skipped two months before

  3. Thats completly normal! Dont worry, this happens in all teen girls. Make sure you eat healthy and weigh a normal weight.

    feel better=]

  4. Totally normal!  Nothing to worry about yet, especially if you're not sexually active.  It can take years to get on a set cycle.  Playing sports and fluctuating weight can also affect it, as well as stress, and we all know high school is stressful!

  5. don't worry about it some women do have that problem just keep a record of when you come on and of and see if you can work a patten or it could be that you are stressed

  6. Most likey your period is healthy. Maybe u should talk 2 your mom but for the msot part everything is fine. This has happened 2 me before as well!

  7. i get that too sometimes. but idk it could be a thyroid problem, or maybe your stressed out?

  8. Don't fret.

I don't think my periods settled down for several years. If you worry about it it can prevent it from coming. It has happened to me. Your periods are very sensitive to your mood.

  9. Having irregular or missed periods can be caused by a number of things such as significant weight gain or loss (although low body weight is a common cause of missed or irregular periods, obesity also can cause menstrual problems), over-exercise, poor nutrition (or a diet too high in carbohydrates), smoking, certain medications, caffeine, excessive alcohol use (interfering with how the liver metabolizes estrogen and progesterone), eating disorders, increased stress, PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome or estrogen dominance), uterine abnormalities such as fibroids, ovarian cysts, polyps, endometriosis and hormonal imbalances.

I would recommend you consult with your doctor/gynaecologist for further evaluation to see what they think could be causing this.

    Good luck :)
