Are slingshots illegal in the UK?

i got a slingshot from my cosin and i was wondering they were illegal in the uk its not that i wont use it if they were its like he uses it in the park by people the sligshot is a cheap one with a wrist brace so could someone tell me IS IT ILLEGAL

  1. if it has a wrist brace it's not cheap and is used for shooting 40 cal.ball bearings.as far as illegal?probably since they want to ban butter knives!


  2. It's a bit of a grey area. It might amount to an "offensive weapon" if it is made or adapted for causing injury or is carried with the intention of causing injury or can be considered to be a weapon which is purely offensive by its very nature. I am afraid that I do not know enough about them to judge but would advise you to be very careful if using them in public places. The safest thing to do is keep them and use them only on private land - the offensive weapon offence can only be committed in a public place. However, if you are careless with them, it will not matter whether you are on public or private land as you may be guilty of a criminal assault and also liable in civil law for damages.
