Are smear tests painful?

i have one coming up and im dreading it

Don't worry to much about it, it really shouldn't be painful. Uncomfortable yes. Just relax, and as long as the Dr/Nurse who is performing the smear taking his/her time, the whole experience should be fine, and once you have had one, hopefully the ones after will be much less of a worry.

no they arent painful, a little uncomfortable but thats all, you get a towel to cover up with and the lady that does it has seen thousands of private parts aswell, i dreaded my first one, I felt a bit violated before it had even happened, once it was over though i did think what was that about lol its not something that you look forward to every 3 years, but its worth it.  Whats worse?  2 mins of being a bit uncomfortable or being very ill with cancer or something?

No there not but it does feel a little weird. Just relax and think "they have done this a thousand times over, I'm no different to them". That's what i had to keep thinking because that's what i was worried about. Having a stranger look at my v****a. It really doesn't hurt though and don't listen to what anyone else says, it doesn't.

It's more uncomfortable than painful. Spreading your legs and having a stranger prod around isn't the nicest feeling.

No there is nothing to worry about :-) just go in be relaxed.  remember the nurse/doctor has seen it all before. And remember why you are getting it, to rule out any stages of cancer-  I myself had to get a procedure done as abnormal cells was found. so have to get yearly smears. Its all part of life.

Not painful just uncomfortable, the more your relax the easier it is, I would defo encourage you to go for this as an example of when it can go wrong has been shown in the papers this week with Jade Goody, so for peace of mind and your own good health forget about the embarassment and just remember they have done it 1000's of times before, so you will be more embarassed than the doctor/nurse.  Also you can request for a female nurse/doctor to do it if your doctor is male

no, not painful just uncomfortable and embarrassing.  I think the dread leading up to it is probably worse!

Nah, just a bit uncomfortable and embaressing lol.

When I get nervous I laugh, so everytime the nurse tried to take a sample, I'd end up giggling and the thing would fall out lol.

But once I calmed down I didn't even notice it was there.
