Are smelling salts illegal for high school sports?

i know this has nothing to do with football but this is the most popular high school sport. If you saw the olympic marathon the lady who won it took a few sniffs from some smelling salts. is smelling salts ok to use for high school athletes.

I thought smelling salts were just something to wake you up if you got your bell rung or something like that. I honestly don't know what the heck they are, anyway.

I don't know if you can use them for track and field but we used them on the football team all the time in high school.
