  1. Not as good as rifled, but fair out to one hundred yards.

  2. HI --- I have several Mossberg 500's of various configurations.... One of them is a slug gun with a smooth bore... I can hit a 12 inch steel plate at 100 yards with no problem... YES you can shoot shot and buckshot thru it.... Be sure to use only Foster type slugs thru a smooth bore... Not Sabots, they wouldnt work very efficeintly.....

  3. i have an 870, smooth bore and i shoot slugs and shot. you need to chech the choke tightness, unless it is full, extra full, or something of that type, no problem

  4. If you only can have one barrel, I would shoot a smooth bore with rifle sights. This way, the gun could be used with shot or slug and do a reasonable job.

I have both rifled and smoothbore for my 12 ga. but if I had ONLY one , I would go with whatever would shoot all shells as an all around gun.

  5. I own a winchester 12 gauge model 1500,  it came with a smooth slug barrel and was tapped for a scope. I put a scope on it and took it to a range. It did pretty good after experimenting with different slugs and I still use it. Between 75 & 100 yards I can get within a 6" pattern. I would not use buckshot in it because of the shortness of the barrel and it would spray a very wide pattern.

  6. YES you sure can.* NO problem.*

  7. Smooth barrels are intended for shot.  That is the raison d'être for smooth bores, to shoot shot.
