My dog goes berserk, and I noticed my snake freezing up and breathing rapidly. He tried to knot into a ball too.

  1. I have never heard of a snake being afraid of a thunderstorm.  Maybe he is reacting to your dog, or to your emotions when a storm hits.

  2. Snakes are very sensitive to vibration - every part of their body in contact with the ground can sense it. The loud, low-frequency vibrations of a thunderstorm could be quite distressing for them.
