  1. if u use the type with a fan...yes...it will take up every neighbor in your neighborhood...no joke. if u use the type with compressed air and water and a nozzle then no, they are like a gardenhose in quietness.

  2. Well if your using an air compressor then yes the are very loud.

  3. Yes.

  4. Snowmakers...the people...tend to be fairly loud when we are on the mountain making snow. However, when not working I would say that most snowmakers speak in a normal tone of voice.

Snowmaking apparati (that's the correct plural form of apparatus) are generally loud.

Air powered ground guns are the loudest. The air powered stem guns, such as HKDs, are also very loud but because they are 12 feet or so off the ground you can speak and be heard even when standing next to them.

Electric guns (Polecats, Arecos, Highlands) all tend to be about the same in volume. The fans themselves aren't so loud as the compressed water that shoots out of the nozzles.

Planning to use one in your neighborhood is really not a good idea. You will most likely have to get some sort of permit from your local municipality. Likewise, electric guns require a lot of power and water. A normal household electrical system can be wired to effectively power the guns, but you will need to install a seperate breaker box and the right power coupling. It's not like plugging in a toaster oven. You'll also need to have a means to hook into a water supply. Most snowmaking guns use a 1.5 or 1.0 inch coupling not unlike a firehose. Some use 2.0 inch mains, but you can buy reducers if need be. However, it's rather difficult to hook them up to your garden hose spigot without first making a stop at your local plumbing supply store.

  5. yes on a still night u can here them from about 2/3 miles away if they are the fan style used at lower levals
