Are soccer shorts and t-shirts acceptable attire in Rome/Florence?

If so, what do you suggest an athletic girl wear?

I'm trying to pack for Italy. I leave on Friday. I planned on packing tons of soccer shorts and t-shirts along with some nice outfits. Would I look really out of place if I wore some comfortable short-t-shirt outfits when I'm out touring. I plan on doing a lot of sight-seeing in very few days so would like to be comfortable.

  1. DO NOT wear soccer shorts and tshirts. that is the definition of a tourist and you'll fit in with the tourist. if you must wear shorts, get cute ones [but must be knee length to go into churches] and wear a flowy top [again, must cover shoulders to go into churches] to keep you cool and comfortable. italians look nice even when going grocery shopping, so you don't want to look like you're going to the gym [unless you really are, of course]. there's a saying in italy: in order to fit in, you must stand out. have fun! italia is fabulous.

  2. Oh god no! First of all, everybody will see you're a tourist and will try to rip you off or even rob you. And then, no Italian with a little decency would walk around the city dressed like that. You can wear jeans and sneakers, pretty t-shirts too, but don't wear what you would use for the gym. Also don't forget that in Rome they won't let you into the vatican wearing shorts/mini skirts and tank tops.

  3. As Italian, I can say that soccer shirts are a bad idea, expecially if you plan a lot of sightseeings.

Since almost all the sightseeings include visits to the churches (both in Rome and Florence),  and since the soccer shirts are not appropriated, you'r taking the risk to wait outside

For examples, in the Tour "Christian Rome" sold here  http://www.siteseeings.com/tour_69.html you can read

"No Shorts, No Sleeveless Outfits Permitted"

  4. An Italian would recognize a tourist from a thousand miles if he/she would dress like you. :D

If you wanna look casual and most of all, a tourist, just go ahead!!

Fashion is really important in Italy.

We usually make fun on how tourists are dressed. :P

  5. Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable, as you'll have to walk a lot!!! T-shirts and tanktops are ok, I would simply avoid those soccer shorts (ONLY tourists and young children wear them) and choose normal trousers instead. Sneakers are really the best choice.

  6. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Do not where anything that is above youer knees, im telling you

  7. I replied to a similar question last week, it's ok if you are visiting the beach or the seaside. For the city you might want to go with a lower pair of shorts, you might want to visit an artistic church and they won't let you in without "appropiate" clothing (it's like if you are going to a mosque in Turkey they might ask you to remove your shoes and wear a scarf on your head, it's a matter of respect).

  8. You will stick out like a sore thumb.  I have never seen a woman in Italy dressed in athletic shorts and t-shirts.

  9. no.in italy we wear good.and we don't like so much a girl worn with soccers shirts.wear s**y...eheeh...and write in the shirt:"lo prendo in bocca a chiunque si avvicini"and italians will love you
