Are some car stereos not compatible with older cars?

i have an 1992 bmw 325i and i just got a xo vision touch screen radio model number x400gbt. I have the picture and the menu but no sound...and i made sure i connected the postive wires...why no sound?

I would guess that you don't have the speakers wired correctly.  Each speaker has its own positive and negative wire and the wires from your radio have to pair up with the correct wires.
