See I have this sister , she is 21 so she is young but old enough now to possess self-confidence. She is clever (good grades) and people say she is good-looking so really she should have some self-confidence, but she doesn't. She can't help but look at the ground when she walks, she can't talk in large groups, she is shy around strangers and she walks stiffly, with no femininity or sexiness in her step. I don't know what's wrong with her. She says she can't help walking stiffly and staring at the ground frowning when she walks. Can she change, if so then how?

  1. She might not be happy with herself.  lack of Self-confidence may be a symptom of depression, anxiety, phobias or other issues.  But to answer your question, Self -esteem is learned.   It is not genetic, so a person can learn to have low self esteem, they can also learn to have high self esteem.

The key for her is to recognize her achievements, and her value.  many people never recognize their strong points.  She needs to teach herself, or be taught to notice her strong points.

  2. maybe it is because it sounds as if you keep harping on her for this.   Why does it bother you so much?  Lead your own life and let her live hers.

  3. She can change she just needs to find the light at the end of the tunnel and this is something she has to do herself. I know you feel. You wanna do something but you feel helpless. And let me tell you Helplessness is the most god awful feeling in the world. Just have confidence in her and try to convince everyone else too, and maybe she'll realize something. Sometimes believing is all you need to do and show her what confidence is.

  4. I have the same problem. She might just have an anxiety disorder.
