Are some stage hypnosis shows fake and some real, how do you know if its geniune?

more likely to be fake. you cannot hypnotize a non-consenting person, plus the environment is not conducive for hypnosis. ^_^

Does it matter - stage hypnosis is not hypnotherapy, so has no therapeutic value, so no harm is done either way.

But for stage hypnosis, most people are a bit 'merry' before the hypnotist picks them via a simple suggestion test. Those who pass are good subjects, those who are not do not get picked.

When they are induced, again those who are not good subjects are told to sit back down.

When under hypnosis, they do nothing that they would not normally do as they are in full control.

At least some of them are fake to one extent or another.

Genuine if it is not entertaining.  If the person clucks like a chicken, howls like a dog and sings then it's fake.

Hypnotism is a "suggestion" not a command type of response.  The person under hypnotism can break anytime if they don't feel comfortable with it.

I don't think the person who is doing mad things is faking they are put into a state where they feel relaxed enough to act the clown. I only saw one at a holiday camp and joined the people who were being hypnotised - I am dissociative and hypnotise at the drop of a hat but wasn't chosen - I noticed that the hypnotist chooses people to go forward and do the acts very carefully - There must be an art to realising who is extrovert and game for a laugh. I am quite a serious person.
