Are some usb drives better at storing music than other media,i mean in terms of sound quality?

i downloaded music to my usb drive then installed it onto my ps3 the music sounded terrible.

Nope... The USB drive does not have the power to alter the quality of the music track. Unless it's somehow corrupting the file (which I doubt since you mention they work). Maybe the music files are not appropriately encoded to play on the PS3.
