Question:

Are sophet vents required when I already have drip edge venting?

12 year old roof

Shingles are in great condition

Some of roof is lifting between the boards

Is there a clamp made out there to pull it back down?

  1. Code dictates the square inches of venting area required, but not soffit vs. one of the new integrated venting systems.  From your description, it sounds like you've definitely got ventilation problems.

    If, by panels, you mean the roof decking under the shingles -- if they're pulling away from the rafters, the only fix is to take up a section of roofing and refasten the decking (and possibly replace, if it's been water damaged).  If your decking is OSB (looks like a bunch of potatoe-chip sized pieces of wood pressed together), OSB is especially sensitive to water damage.  When it gets wet, the edges swell significantly, and this can be seen from outside the house as ridges in the shingles.


  2. You can't have enough intake either in soffits or drip edge. I don't know what you mean about what is swelling.
