Im just starting to learn spanish, and i dont understand schit yet. but a lot of french songs for me go to fast, so i dont understand everyword, but just a summaty or something, and then i quickly forget.

but it seems to me that spanish goes slower a bit. i dont know.

if someone has learned spanish, can they understand just about everyword when listening to a song.

how do you get so familiar to a language that you can understand it anytime you hear it(about everyword), instead of just a summary of what theyre saying/singing

Can i ever learn spanish. i just started, and it seems to me that ill never learn a word. are their songs easier to understand than french

  1. Hmmm, I think your theory is somehow right, my native language is Spanish and I'm trying to learn French, I think I can handle it pretty well but I find really hard to understand French songs, even though my favourite bands are from there, like Babylon Circus, Zebda, Les Ogres de Barback... maybe Le Maximum Kouette or Manu Chao since they sing in both languages are a little bit more clear for me. I believe that the Spanish pronunciation is very straight forward; there are no big changes in the pronunciation between the different words. But in French they are pretty common, like "Au revoir" is pronounced very different than the way it's written.

But on the other side there are too many Spanish accents, each country has it's own and most of them have even 3 or 4 different accents with different expressions inside the country. For example the group Ska-P from Madrid, Spain sings very fast and I can't understand the first time I hear a song, Dusminguet or La Kinky Beat from Barcelona when they are not singing in Catalan are pretty clear. Bersuit Vergarabat or Los Fabulosos Cadillacs also sing clearly but has a strong Argentinian accent. El Cuarteto de Nos from Uruguay maybe could be a good group to test your Spanish because even though they sing clearly they use really complex lyrics so it's interesting to listen them.

Well my favourite way to get used to a language is using it a lot, once I can understand a few words I start to force myself to learn more, like changing the language of my applications in the PC to that language, listening music, watching movies and specially reading. Because when you memorize them like a class and don't use it, you will forget it; instead when you are used to it it's easy to think in the language and stop translating it like a summary when you read.

    I hope I helped ^^
