For example a half pint of beer compared to a shot of vodka with half a pint of orange, these two would have roughly the same units of alcohol and once watered down with orange the vodka would be the same alcohol percentage as the beer but would the vodka(or spirits in general) be worse for your liver regardless?

  1. All alcohol is equally bad for the liver.  There is unfortunately...no healthy booze out there!

  2. Distilled spirits such as vodka and gin are the cleanest forms of drinkable alcohol, particularly stuff like Jean Marc XO, distilled 9  times then filtered. This is because the forms of alcohol in the drink is virtually all ethanol, and contains very little harmful alcohols such as methanol and heavy alcohols.

Basically vodka has less c**p in it than beer but each has roughly the same alcohol content.

  3. Alcohol is alcohol.

  4. 12oz of 5% beer is equal to 1.5oz of 40% liquor. Both contain 0.6oz of ethanol alcohol.

The spirits are not as good for you as beer mostly because they don't contain the high levels of vitamins, minerals, protiens and antioxydents. Unit for unit it will have the same circulatory health benefits. It is unclear if low ABV liquors contain the same cancer preventative benefits of beer.

When used in moderation, alcohol is fine for your liver... Your liver is the most resilliant organ in your body. When abused, much like anything else in this world, it will cause damage.

If you want to save your liver practice moderation. One to two drinks a day, with the occasional day off. You may treat yourself to drunken night on occasion, but you want to keep them to a minimum.
