Are sponges recyclable?

I need to use recyclable household materials to create a plant model and I was wondering if sponges were recyclable?

And if you have any other ideas for household products that are recyclable, let me know! Thanks!

The synthetic sponges are not recyclable but the real ones are biodegradable. They also last a lot longer. If you are concerned you can buy ecofriendly harvested sponges at may hardware and some art stores.
