I found a spotted salamander in my basement. It is black with yellow dots on it. I live in northern PA. I looked online and one site said the were and one said they weren't. If they are, how do i get rid of them if there are more. I have a 2 year old and 2 dogs. Thanks for any info you have.

  1. If you dont know for sure better not even touch them, buy some latex globes and us a plastic bag to take them away.

  2. They secrete a very mild toxin on their skin. If you touch it and then l**k your finger, it will taste like touching a 9v battery with your tongue.

The toxin IS NOT harmful to humans and is designed to just make a dog or other predator drop it.

The salamander does not want to be in the house- it basically got lost. Take it and any others you may find outside and let them go near shaded moist soil.
