  1. depends on the dog :) theyre also known as nanny dogs cos they like looking after things

  2. i think all dogs have the capability to hurt people even the small fluffy breeds, it is how you bring them up that matters. the problem is if a small dog bites you it will hurt but wont do to much damage and will let go.a staffs jaws are designed to be like a vice, they are really strong and when they get hold of you they wont let go so have the capability of doing some serious damage and a child would be at eye level with the dog if it jumped up to bite. you need to be a strong handler if you do have a staff. i would opt for a weaker breed if you have kids its just not worth the risk

  3. do you mean like a long stick of wood.  Yes Ithink they are safe

  4. Staffs are quite safe, but I don't like the kid's chances...

  5. are you talking about the dog??

if so it depends on the dog, just as it does any breed. a lab can be unsafe around children.

the only danger comes if the dog is not used to children and as I said that is with any breed.

  6. youre going to have to elaborate

  7. All dogs can be a danger to children, however safe they seem. They can 'turn' at any time because children will easily annoy them.

  8. Yes they are its how you treat the dog!! i have a staff and he is completely fine with my neices aged 2 & 6! they are lovley dogs and pretty safe!! xx

  9. I don't think staffs are more dangerous than any other dog. It's just that they much more muscular and harder to get off if they do attack! It's down to common sense. I wouldn't leave any dog regardless of breed unattended around a child. It just isn't worth the risk.

  10. Most staffy owners will say yes but there is no way I would let my son near one. I know other dogs can attack and give a nasty bite but staffs can kill so I personally would never take that chance.

  11. No dog is safe around children--they'll gobble your kid up.

  12. Yes they are, the only problem i found is that they can be quite boistrous at times and are strong enough to knock over small children.

My advice is just don't leave the dog with the child/children alone.

  13. Are you referring to a Staffi? as in the dog?

  14. I think it depends entirely on the dog. Staffs have got a bad name and reputation through the media for being very vicious and mauling people, which can be true of any breed not just staffs.

I would suggest introducing the dog and the child/baby gradually, don't leave the two alone and make sure you watch them all the time. If it's a new baby with an old dog the dog may become abit morngy as they are such people dogs and may feel pushed out, but with time the dog will get use to the baby.

Good Luck staffs really are great dogs mines just like a baby and he's really gentle.

  15. Like the others say- it all depends on the dog. My daughter is around a great dane and a pit bull every day and both do very well. The pit is actually more affectionate with my 9 month old while the dane is stand-offish until she crawls his way.

I think most injuries to children occur when a dog has not been trained properly or when the child and dog are not being supervised properly. I mean, if you leave a baby alone in a room with a dog and the baby happens to think the dog's ears are a good anchor to use to pull up, the dog will almost certainly bite since it cannot get away while in a baby deathgrip (parents out there know what I mean). The only time I leave my daughter in a room w/ the dogs, she was in her exersaucer, and I am either going to the restroom or checking on food I am cooking. The worst has happened is my dane had conned my daughter into giving him all of her Puffs snacks.

  16. All dogs are safe around children if they are properly supervised and trained. Even chis can be dangerous if they are left unsupervised.

Staffs aren't more dangerous or safer than other breeds. They usually aren't a jealous breed, so they tolerate children better than some other breeds.

That being said, never leave a dog unsupervised with a kid.

Kids tend to pull and pinch, and dogs don't really appreciate that, so they nip. A nip would only be a nip for an adult, but it can really hurt a child.

Also, dogs like to jump, play fight, and roll around. A 120 lb woman or a 170 lb man can be a good sparing partner for a 60 lb dog, but a 20 lb kid isn't.

    Always supervise your kids.

  17. I all depends how they are treated, if they bred as fighting dogs for sad blokes street cred then no, but my friend has 2 that have been treated as family dogs and they are lovely and soft.

  18. It all depends on whether you trust the dog, is it yours, have you had is from a puppy, is it used to children?  They are no less untrustworthy with children than any other dog though when they bite it is a lot more serious than the bite from a pomeranian, even in playing they can be a bit rough with young children.  They are great pets though and love to play which makes them ideal for older children.  Staffies can be aggressive with other dogs but are normally love the company of people.
