  1. Not exactly.  They are pacers.  Pacers move in such a way that the left rear and the left front hit the ground at the same time and same for the right set of legs.  It's called pacing.

    Most people with gaited horses do not want their horses to pace, ever.  It is not desirable at all in a gaited horse. Gaited horses move in such a way that the left rear foot hits the ground just before the left front and same with the right set of legs.

    Although both can be very comfortable, standardbreds pace and gaited horses gait.

  3. Some of them pace naturally, and some don't.  Pacers can be trained to trot, however.
