I was just wondering, are staring contests bad for your eyes? Do they effect your vision, strain your eyes, any overall eye problems, etc?

  1. they make your vision clearer

  2. If you do it from time to time as a game, then I don't see anything wrong with it. However, if you do it as a normal routine, then I would be a bit worried.

Your eyes will be forced to work harder than they need to, therefore, straining them and can cause your eyes to develop problems such as short-sightedness. Your eyes will also turn dry.

Don't do anything that is beyond your limits and stop when you can't take it any longer. You will be fine then.

  3. Not really. During a staring contest your eye will become dry on the outside, but after the contest and  you blink it just goes back to normal. The dryness on the outside doesn't effect  the inside of the eye much, so your eyes will be fine,

But too much of anything is bad anyway.

It doesn't effect your vision. Your vision gets worse is there are ultraviolet rays (from your tv, computer, microwave ect) going into them for long periods. Like watching tv really close for a loong time.

And it will not strain your eyes, eye straining is when you are trying really hard to see something you can't see well.

Like looking at small letters far away. You're straining to see them.
