Are state emergency services covered by taxes or not ?

I was recently charged $1000 in Norwood Park for an ambulance ride. I though my taxes paid for Norwood Park's precious service.....so how much does it cost for them to put out a house fire...or how much does it cost police to find my snow blower?

(Aetna covered everything except $50...but still...is this is a joke?)

  1. Well, I can say from personal experience that where I live, the ambulance IS free.

I had to be taken via ambulance to the hospital, and I never got charged a penny.  It was a city ambulance.

  2. Ambulance services are not free to the patient.  What universe are you living in?

  3. The taxes pay the setup, but you can still be billed for the actual services rendered.  You don't get free ambulance rides from it.

It's just like a "fire department service charge".  Yes, it's taxpayer subsidized.  Yes, you still get billed extra, for the actual service call.
