  1. Stillbirths are defined as a child born after 24 weeks of pregnancy who showed no signs of life. They have been registered since 1/7/1927. Obtaining a certificate as more complicated than normal and requires the written permission of the mother if she is still alive. Have a look at: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/stillb... Good luck with your search

  2. Although this post refers to United Kingdom records, a word must also be said about stillbirth documentation in the United States.  As of June 23, 2008, 23 US states offered parents of stillborn babies the option of an official birth certificate for stillborn infants, some with gestation periods as low as 20 weeks. Parents can file such forms retroactively, long after the stillbirth.  "Missing Angels" legislation is pending in six other states.

  3. UK answer.

Here in the UK there isn't an on line index for *stillbirths*. This is classed as information only the next of kin  are privy to. The web site below is where you will need to contact, but if your mum and dad are still alive then they are the ones who will need to ask the question ( to see the  index). The only time that you or any other sibling would be eligible to have access to this information is when your parents pass away. Then you will need proof that you were a sibling to the stillborn child. This would be death certificates for both parents, and your birth certificate.

    Hope this helps.

  4. In Britain a still birth is not normally officially recorded as a birth and does not even have to be recorded, the baby has never lived outside of the womb so cannot be recorded as having been born, for that same reason it cannot be baptised, but it may be blessed I believe.

  5. A death certificate should have been filed by the doctor who witnessed the birth.  Try the death certificate area if you can't find it in the birth certificates.
