Question:

Are strawberries really angiosperms?

I have heard that strawberry is the only fruit whose seeds are naked..then why is it known as an angiosperm???

Please help and explain

  1. It is actually an angiosperm, because the "seeds" are miniature fruits containing the real seeds. What we see as the fruit is the swollen flower base. The seeds are called "achenes", see (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achene) for more details.


  2. The little "seeds" on the outside of the berry are really fruits, containing a real seed inside. Therefore they are angiosperms and not gymnosperms.
